Ada Cattanach (Jerrett/Snyder) ,Grandma Ada, passed away peacefully at home on the 3rd of April 2013. She is survived by three of her four children, Pamela Jerrett, Lauri Jerrett Gambetta, Doug Jerrett and preceded in death by her youngest daughter Cindy Jerrett. Ada is also survived by her beloved son in law Del Gambetta, her grandchildren Kristen McCollum and Zak Jerrett and great grandchild Alex Clawson as well as dozens of friends in the community she loved and served.
Ada was born and raised in Seattle and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1935. After High School she worked for Asahel Curtis up until he passed away in 1941.
After her career she married David Jerrett. She brought up her own family on the same street where she was born and raised and she lived her life in the home she watched being built so many years ago.
Ada loved children and reading so combined her passions and became a Foster Grandparent at Olympic View Elementary School. Olympic View was very special to Ada as she, her Mother, and her children all attended Olympic View as well as her grandson and great grandson. She began as a volunteer in Zak’s kindergarten class in 1990, followed by her great grandson’s class nine years later. In 1999 she became the Foster Grandparent of Mrs. Heindl’s kindergarten class and remained there until the day she retired. Ada served as a volunteer for 22 years. She loved to read and enjoyed sharing this love by reading to the children and they loved reading to her. She really enjoyed the children and would often say ‘there isn’t a bad one in the bunch’ . She was 95 when she retired from Olympic View and she missed seeing “her kids” every day.
In addition to being an avid reader, usually a book a day, she also loved movies, both classic and new, and frequented movie theaters all over the Seattle area. She was not a driver so if a theater was not within walking distance you would see her traveling by Metro. Ada loved basketball and was a season ticket holder for the Seattle Super Sonics and was in the crowd cheering them on during the NBA Championship in 1979. So if she wasn’t reading, seeing movies or watching basketball she could be found listening to music. She loved all kinds of music but was a huge Johnny Mathis fan and saw him every time he would come to town.
Ada will be missed by so many people she touched over her life.. She was always laughing, great to talk to and always made you feel good. A truly wonderful Mother, Grand Mother, Great Grandmother and friend. We will carry her memory in our hearts forever.
