Adele Shuwayhat Zawaideh ( 84) passed away on November 19th 2012 at Evergreen Adult Home in Renton Washington. Adele, a 50 plus year resident of Shoreline Washington was born in Madaba, Jordan on January 19, 1928 and immigrated to the US with husband Issa Zawaideh (deceased 1967) in December of 1956, along with two of their three children, Tony and Rita. They settled in the Seattle area, where son Michael was born.
Adele retired from Washington Dental after raising her three children in Seattle and was a devoted mother and an enthusiastic participant and supporter within the Seattle area Arab Community. She was a long time parishioner at St. Marks Church in Shoreline.
Adele is survived by children: Tony (Briget) Zawaideh; Rita Zawaideh, and Michael (Deanna) Zawaideh;
Affectionally known as Teta to Grandchildren: Dunya, Sharif, Nadya, Christina and Tarek; Step-Grandchildren: Laila, Andrea and Tyler and Great-Grandchildren: Rhys, Austin, Laith and Lillian
A private family graveside service will be held at Holyrood Cemetery followed by a Mass at St. Mathews Church located at 1240 NE 127th Seattle, WA 98125, officiated by Father, Samir Abu Lail on Saturday December 8th at 11 AM with Food of Mercy following.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Adele’s memory may be directed to Salaam Cultural Museum, which incorporates the culture of the Middle East along with a better understanding of the people and history of the Arab World. (www.Salaamculturalmuseum.org)
Issa and Adele Zawaideh were one of the original pioneers of the Arab community in the Seattle area. They made it possible for many others to integrate in the Seattle area, as well as share with many of their newfound friends, through their never ending hospitality, the traditions and customs of their homeland. They loved preparing food for large gatherings through their “open door” invitations. Adele’s infectious smile and twinkling eyes, brought joy to her family and extended family of dear friends, co-workers and new found friends along her life journey here on earth.
She will be remembered with love and fondness forever more by all that loved and knew her.
