Astrid (Kroll) Perry was born in Wetzlar, Hesse, Germany, on October 30, 1944. She grew up as a young girl in Germany, and emigrated to the U.S. when she was 10 years old. Her family landed at Boston, and then made their home in Worcester, Massachusetts. She attended Junior High and High School at Lincoln School, an all girls’ school located in Providence, Rhode Island. After her High School Graduation, she went on to Guilford College, in Greensboro, North Carolina, and graduated with a degree in English.
Following her college graduation, she moved to the Seattle area, and took a job at Seattle Trust bank. This job was more than just a regular job…it came complete with a co-worker and new friend named Chris Casper, who introduced Astrid to her older brother, John, in 1969. Their friendship grew and they were married on June 9, 1972. And…Chris the co-worker was now the sister-in-law!
John and Astrid’s son, John David, was born in April, 1973, and he brought them much joy! They were married for 36 years until John passed away on August 26, 2008. Astrid was an avid reader, and surrounded herself with hundreds and hundreds of books. She was also a lover of everything Disney. She enjoyed the Disney fantasy and magical elements, many of which were tied to castles, maybe reminding her of her youth in Germany.
She worked as a clerk at Water District #119, a small Water District serving the Carnation area, (as one of only two full time employees), from 1981 until her retirement in 2009. She enjoyed her home that she and her husband built in 1976, located at Lake Marcel. She was a patient and kind person who loved to spoil her grandkids, and she freely gave of her time to help others. Not long after her retirement in late 2009 or early 2010, she contracted cancer, and spent the next few years fighting off the cancer until she passed away on July 7, 2014 in her home in Carnation, where she had lived for so many years. She was a kind and caring person with a positive outlook on life, and was ready to help others if they needed a hand. She is survived by her son John David Perry and his wife Stacee, her grandson Jake 15, and her granddaughter Ashley, 12. Astrid was a wonderful wife, and a dearly loved Mother and Grandmother, and will be greatly missed!
