APRIL 3, 1936 – OCTOBER 28, 2013
With dignity and grace, Petie quietly slipped away. No longer would she need the oxygen tubes and the assorted paraphernalia required to keep her comfortable. She had said her goodbyes and made peace with those she loved. She will be long remembered; here are some of our best memories.
Petie was a stylish dresser with an attractive slim figure and a most pretty face. She loved to shop – for clothes certainly, but really for everything in her nicely kept homes. So shopping, especially for diamonds and gold jewelry, and of course her dogs: Peppy, Danny and Winnie, filled her life with joy. She remembered every birthday of her four nieces and nephew with an elaborately wrapped gift.
Petie was a very good cook – pork chops, spaghetti and homemade chocolate cake were specialties.
Driving was another pleasure; she was an excellent driver and kept her cars in pristine condition. She enjoyed travel, eating out, a cigarette and a good drink – or three. When the latter became a problem, she successfully addressed that issue with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Petie was fun and funny with a great laugh. She graduated from Garfield High School, Class of 1951 and sang in the Chorus. Living in New Mexico and California, she did clerical work in the insurance and banking industries for more than 20 years. She married William Crabtree in 1958 and later Donn T. Terrill in California. They had many happy years together before his death in 2001.
A reformed smoker, she died of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease after five months in hospice care. Special thanks to Rimas Adult Family Home in Shoreline.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Jim Kavanaugh of Seattle, and four nieces, Susan Kavanaugh (Glenn Blackmon) of Olympia; Katie Kavanaugh Pauly (Doug Pauly) of Wenatchee; Elizabeth Kavanaugh (Jaime Vera) of Seattle; Barbara Kavanaugh of Seattle, and one nephew, Steven Kavanaugh of Seattle. She is also survived by nine grandnieces and nephews and numerous cousins, including Jennifer Myrans of Oakville, Ontario; Judith Manerud Lawrence of Vashon Island, WA; Bob Boyd (Linda) of Placerville, CA; Harriette Herkert and Bill Rich (Pontiac, IL – home of generations of forebears); David Herkert (Monika) of Carbondale, IL; Virginia Frances Smith (Bob) of Wisconsin; David Kempston (Ginny) of Grand Rapids, MI; and Chris Kempston of San Diego, CA.
