Barbara Louise Wilson, (née Hubbert) age 85, passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2019, at Swedish Hospital Cherry Hill in Seattle, surrendering her human struggle with the inevitable progression and complications related to COPD.
Born June 3rd, 1933 at the original Swedish Hospital in Seattle in the heart of the great depression, she often reflected fondly on her childhood memories of creating her own fun using only the everyday objects in her environment and her vivid imagination. A key value that she held dear was that of freedom and independence which she attributed to her experiences spending her summer vacations with her family at their rustic waterfront cabin on rural Puget Sound.
An avid amateur pianist since the age of 7, she believed that music is an instrument of peace and unity in the world.
She graduated Roosevelt High School in 1951 and the University of Washington in 1955 with a degree
in Home Economics.
She married Charles B. Wilson in 1955. Together they founded Production Gear Works in Ballard in 1962 which was operational until Charles’ passing in 1988. Following his death, she gradually downsized and spent her final 16 years happy with her cherished independence and freedom at her Westwood Heights studio apartment where, like in her youth, she enjoyed the simplicity of her life – playing cards with a group of fellow seniors and entertaining them on the piano- being her later manifestations of her ability to create her own fun.
The main qualities that Barbara will be remembered for include her kindness, her love of music, her cake-decorating abilities, her laughter, and above all, her unconditional love of her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Charles B. Wilson, her Grandson Michael McCloud-Wilson, her parents, William Hauenstein Hubbert & Mae Louise Hubbert, her brother, William Horton Hubbert and her step-sister Katie Olson. She is survived by all her six children: Scott Wilson, Mark Wilson, Kathleen Wilson, Genevieve Wilson, Bill Wilson and Jacquelyn Wilson; her sister-in-law and former traveling partner, Alice Jean Crawford, her sister-in-law Beverly Hubbert; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held for Barbara at Our Lady of Guadalupe (7000 35th Ave SW Seattle) on Saturday March 16th, 2019 at 11:00 am with an on-site reception following.
