Betty Lou Crampton
Betty Lou Crampton passed away on February 10, 2014. She was 86 years old.
Betty Lou was born in Seattle, WA in 1927. She attended T. T. Minor Elementary School and Broadway High School graduating in 1944 as one of the top ten students. Betty Lou received her license as a registered nurse from Swedish Hospital and the University of Washington in 1950 and her Masters of Nursing from the University of Washington in 1967.
Betty Lou and Loris E. Crampton were married in September 1949 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. They moved to Hawaii where Loris taught at Kamehameha School and Betty Lou was a nurse at Kuakini Hospital. After a year in Hawaii they moved to Centralia, WA. Betty Lou worked at St. Helen’s Hospital in Chehalis, WA. While living in Centralia, Betty Lou and Loris had three children, Carl, Elizabeth, and John.
The family moved to Kirkland, WA in 1960. Betty Lou worked at Overlake Hospital as a King County Public Health nurse, and then as the Director of the King County Visiting Nurse Service. Betty Lou also taught at the University of Washington’s School of Public Health.
Following her retirement she was active in local civic activities serving on the North Rose Hill Neighborhood Association, where she attended meetings with Loris. Much of her free time was spent reading fiction, medical news, The New Yorker magazine, and anything else she could get her hands on; playing bridge; traveling through Europe and America with family and friends, knitting; gardening; and being an involved, loving, and active mother and grandma.
Betty Lou is survived by her children, Carl and his wife, Eileen; Elizabeth and her husband, Jim; John and his wife, Stacy; and her grandchildren Catherine, Jillian, Steven and Emily.
A memorial will be held this summer to celebrate Betty Lou’s life.
