Carol Elaine Meyers
Carol Elaine Meyers (née Butsch) of Lynnwood, Washington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 4, 2025, in Edmonds, Washington, following a stroke. She was 80 years old.
Carol was born on September 28, 1944, to Carl and Mary Helen Butsch (née Hunt) in Marion, Indiana. She grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School in 1962. She then enlisted in the United States Army and served in Frankfurt, West Germany, during the Cold War. After she completed her service in 1965, she moved to Oak Park, Illinois, to start her family. She left the Midwest and her extended family in 1971 for Seattle, Washington, and she lived the rest of her life in Seattle and its northern suburbs of Edmonds and Lynnwood. But the Midwest remained close to her heart, and throughout her life, she referred to Marion as “home.” She was active and social throughout much of her life. She played in a women’s softball league beginning in the 1980s and remained dear friends with people from her team throughout her life. She volunteered in the PTA, took disco classes during the disco era, bowled in a league, hosted parties and barbecues, enjoyed camping and outdoor activities in the Pacific Northwest, enjoyed baking, and was involved in the Lynnwood Fraternal Order of Eagles. Later in life, she kept her circle of people tight and preferred the quiet companionship of her closest family members and friends.
Carol was a loving and devoted mother to her children and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren. She was kind, loving, generous in spirit, playful, joyful, energetic, witty, supportive, openhearted, welcoming, accepting, hopeful, forthright, stubborn at times, strong, resilient, resourceful, and self-reliant. She touched the lives of everyone with whom she crossed paths. In turn, in her final days, she stated that she had felt “so loved” by her family and friends.
Carol is survived by her two children, Robert (Christine) Meyers and Cathlene Meyers; her three granddaughters, Lily Moran (Logan Rheaume), Claire Meyers, and Charlotte Meyers; and her two brothers, John (Diane) Malott and Robert Butsch. At Carol’s request, Carol’s family will hold a private celebration of Carol’s life.
