Caroline Charlotte Everts was born on July 15, 1936 in Middletown, New York. She passed peacefully in her sleep on October 28, 2015 in Bothell, WA, surrounded by her family. She suffered from Crohn’s disease and other medical issues.
Caroline grew up in Middletown, New York, in a middle class family. Her dad, Onofrio “Tony” DiBello, emigrated from Italy and settled down just outside New York City where he was a shoe cobbler by trade. There he met his wife, Charlotte Lowerre. Caroline was the youngest of their four children.
Caroline met her husband, James “Jim” Everts, while attending Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Massachusetts, where she received her secretarial certificate in 1957. They were married on September 1, 1957. From 1957 through 1971 Caroline and Jim lived in Massachusetts and upstate New York, moving through several cities. In 1958 their first son Daniel was born, followed by Mark in 1961, and then their daughter LeAnn in 1962.
In 1971, Caroline and Jim moved across the country to Seattle where her husband took on a new job. With all of her children in school, Caroline entered the work force and started a job working as a secretary at Shoreline Community College. Through several promotions she stayed at Shoreline Community College for 28 years and retired in 2000 as Registrar Office Manager.
Caroline was proud of her years at Shoreline Community College. She took advantage of the faculty program and enrolled in many night classes. One of her passions was geology and she took several geology classes. She was only too happy to share all of her knowledge with the family.
Caroline was fiercely proud of all of her children and relished in being a grandmother to all four of her grandchildren. Family gatherings at her house were a thing to behold. Several different types of homemade goodies were always available – and true to her Italian tradition, way too much food was always left over.
Some of Caroline’s interests included people, food, animals, nature, and education, education, education!
Caroline is survived by her husband James Everts; her children – Dan Everts and his wife Jeanne (children Ryan and Kristen); Mark Everts and his husband Will (children Zach and Eli); LeAnn Everts; her brother Ed DiBello and his wife Dottie, and many other loving family members and friends. Caroline was predeceased by her father Onofrio “Tony” DiBello, her mother Charlotte DiBello, her sister Elizabeth DiBello, and her brother Donald DiBello.
The family held a private celebration of her life in the library of the Chateau at Bothell Landing. A fabulous Italian lunch was shared as well as many photographs, memories, and tears. She would have loved it! She no doubt would have proclaimed that the food was “yummy, yummy, yummy” and/or “de-lish”!!!
The family wishes to express their thanks to the caregivers at the Chateau at Bothell Landing, as well as Evergreen Hospice of Kirkland, WA, for their kindness, compassion, and assistance to Caroline these last few months.
