Clifford D. Baker

Clifford D. Baker was born December 8, 1926 in Grandview, WA to Asa & Effie Baker.  He passed away peacefully at his home in Maple Valley, WA due to natural causes.

Clifford was the third child of six.  His family moved quite often between Minnesota & Washington.  He went to school in the Grand Rapids area of Minnesota.

He joined the Army in February 1945 and was a  S/SGT and lived in Greenbank, WA on Whidbey Island at that time.  He deployed out of Fort Lewis WA.  He received an honorable discharge in December 1946.

He later married Leona (Nonie) Scherf on March 8, 1947 in Renton, WA.  They moved back to Minnesota for a brief time where their first daughter Lynda was born.  They later moved back to Renton where they had 4 more children.  Gary, Vickie, Lori, & Luanne.

Clifford was a construction foreman for The Austin Company for many years before working for his Local Union #242 in Seattle as a Business Agent and then becoming a Business Manager. He loved his job and retired in 1988.

The family spent lots of time camping & fishing and traveling in the camper seeing different parts of the US.

They  moved to Maple Valley, WA in 1977 where he has resided for the last 40 years.

After retirement they purchased a motor home and started going to Arizona for a few months during the winter and after a few years bought a home there and spent their winters there for 20 years before his health issues prevented him from going in 2016 and this year.  Nonie had passed in 2014.

Dad enjoyed playing golf with his friends and watching NASCAR and Mariners & Seahawks games.

Clifford is survived by his children: Lynda Weatherford (Albert), Gary Baker, Vickie Shamblin (Harold), Lori Anderson,  and Luanne Tourangeau; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and brothers Norman Baker and Morris Baker.  He also is survived by several sister-in-laws and brother-in-law Bill Smotherman and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nonie; parents Asa and Effie Baker; sisters Lucille Monroe, Lila Smotherman and Vera Larson ; brother Lyle Baker Sr. ; grandson Darrin Wells; daughters-in-law Carrie Baker; Evonne Kruger.

Services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 20th at 10:30 a.m.
