Dorothy “Rene’” Weaver Horton was born March 7, 1958 in Seattle, WA and died at her home on February 8, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. Rene spent most of her childhood in North Seattle with her parents, three older brothers and one younger brother. She graduated from Ingraham High School in the Haller Lake neighborhood of Seattle,.
After high school she spent many years working as a waitress, cook and bartender at China Chef, Rickshaw, Shays, Theo’s and The Harvester.. After many years in the restaurant business she made a career change and landed a job at The Anderson house as a CNA. She found her home away from home when she started working at Providence Hospital in Everett in 1999. She started as a floater and shortly after moved to the Rehab department as a CNA. Later she was promoted and became a Health Unit Coordinator. She formed a lifetime bond with her coworkers and considered them her second family. Her patients and coworkers loved her dearly.
In 1981 Rene’ met the love of her life, Steve Horton. Rene’ was a woman who always knew what she wanted, and after dating for 8 years, she proposed to Steve! Of course he said yes, and they married in 1989. They purchased their first home in Bothell in 1997 and made this their home for years to come. Together they raised three wonderful children – Randy, Lindsay and Lucas. As a family they loved caring for their beloved pets and spending Fourth of July’s at Oak Harbor with the Horton family, camping at Mt Baker, Ocean Shores, Grant Coulee Dam, Grandy Lake, and Liars Cove in Conconully.
Rene’s hobbies were planting flowers in the spring and spending time with her family. She looked forward to Weaver Friday night dinners and made a point to attend, whether she felt good or not. Family was always her priority.
Rene’ kept a very positive attitude throughout her battle with cancer. All she asked from her family and friends is that they send positive thoughts. She had no room for negativity. It was hard to be anything but positive when you were with Rene – she was a fighter and was going to beat cancer. She valiantly fought until the very end.
Rene’ is survived by her loving husband Steve, children Randy (Shalynn), Lindsay (Craig) and Lucas, grandchildren Cody and Riley, her parents Donald and Janice Weaver, brothers Ted, Rick and Billy, her fur babies Maddie and Macey, many nieces and nephews, in laws, cousins and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Judy, her brother Donny and her Auntie Barb.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rene’s name can be made to the Autism Foundation, American Cancer Society or Hospice.
Services for Rene’ will be held at Aurora Church of Nazarene, 1900 N 175th St Shoreline, at 11:00am on Saturday, February 17th with a reception immediately following. A viewing will be held at 10:00am.
