Elisabeth Melczer

Elisabeth Melczer died on July 22, 2014 at the age of 80. She passed away at her residence in Renton, Washington after a long battle with cancer.

 

“Liesl” Melczer was born in Vienna Austria. She was the daughter of Johannes and Anna Kaltenbrunner, and loving wife of William ( deceased ). Elisabeth worked in various settings at Syracuse University. She was part of the driving force in the creation and sustainment of the humanistic and educational traveling seminars through Syracuse University. These included seminars on Humanism and the Arts in Renaissance Italy, Medieval Pilgrimage Routes from Southern France to Santiago de Compostela: Romanesque Art in the Making, and Azahar: Islamic Conquest and the Christian Reconquest. Her home (Heimat) was ever divided between Syracuse, New York; Baden/Vienna, Austria and most recently Renton, Washington. She leaves a host of friends and relations all over the world, encompassing among others the countries of Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Elisabeth_Willy-1Italy, Spain, Australia, Uruguay and the United States. She loved traveling, museums, art, foreign films, and reading. Her love, hope, empathy, generosity, humor, world view, Wiener Schnitzel, Hühnersuppe, Knödelzuppe, and presence will be greatly missed by her family and friends. … Hoppe, hoppe, Reiter… Gute nacht, schlaf gut, träum schön.

 

She is survived by her three sons, Peter, Andrew, and John, and by two grandchildren, Aedan and Roman.

 

Celebration of Life gatherings will be held in Baden, Austria and Syracuse New York at future dates. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Regional Oncology Center, 750 East Adams Street, Syracuse, NY, 13210.
