With heavy hearts but feeling blessed by her life, we announce that our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Friend Francisca “Mima” Lopez passed away peacefully on July 2, 2016. She was 93 years old.
Francisca was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba to Zoilo and Teresa Reyes. As a child, she enjoyed the natural beauty of her homeland and participated in many outdoor activities such as horseback riding, swimming, farming, fishing, etc. As a young woman, she became very interested in fashion and was often recognized locally for her natural beauty and sense of style.
She married Amancio Lopez in 1950 and together they raised two daughters in Havana. Changes in the homeland prompted a move to the United States in 1969 and Chicago became
the family’s new home, the great city she dearly loved.
A family job relocation brought retired Francisca to Seattle in 1983 to be near her Grandson Carlos, her pride and joy.
Here she began attending church services, gave her life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and met many new wonderful friends. She also enjoyed outdoor outings with friends and family, regional dining, travel, gardening, and attending her grandson’s school and sports activities as well as Seattle Sonics and Mariners games.
She was preceded in death by her husband Amancio, her parents, and several siblings.
She is survived by daughters Teresa and Josefina; grandson Carlos, and family members in Cuba.
Private funeral services will be held on Monday July 11th. A “life celebration” for friends and family will be held at a later time.
Memorials can be made to her favorite charity “St. Jude Children’s Hospital” or to the charity of your choice.
We grieve her loss but we thank God for her amazing life and her deep devotion and love for others.
