Frederick “Pete” Joseph Peters LTC-Ret

He died peacefully in his sleep on November seventh 2017.

He is survived by one son, Frederick C Peters (Audra) of Phoenix and close companion Virginia Madrid of Woodinville, Washington. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kristin, and three brothers, John, Calvin and Raymond Peters.

A life long learner, Pete gradated from the University of Toledo in 1962.

He did post gradate work at nine colleges and universities:

Northwestern State University – MBA – 1976, Pierce College Washington – AA Accounting – 1988; Central Washington – BS Accounting Business – 1990, Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas – 1974; Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia –  1983.

Pete said Dr. Gardiner Williams, Philosophy Department Chairman, inspired him to become a philosophy major and gave him a whole new outlook on understanding of life,

He was commissioned as Regular Army Officer from University of Toledo ROTC program. He served 25 years, 1962-1987, as an Infantry officer, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel.  His service included:Paratrooper Units, Special Forces (Green Beret), Training Center Operations Officer, ROTC Instructor, Ranger school graduate, NATO Staff Officer in Europe, Operations Officer at the US Army Headquarters Europe, and as a member of the teaching faculty at the Armed Forces Staff College, instructing in computer assisted strategic planning.

Overseas assignments included: Panama, Germany, and two and half years combat service in Vietnam, with Special Forces as an A-Team commander, with Special Operations Group (SOG) as an advisor to Vietnamese special operations units, and as commander of an airborne (paratrooper) rifle company. Pete received many awards and decorations, including the ‘Valor in Combat’, ‘The Combat Infantryman Badge’, and a ‘Purple Heart.’

In 1990, he began a sole-proprietor tax and financial services practice. Working from his home office, he specialized in preparation of all forms and types of tax returns.  He also specialized in problem solving and representing tax payers before the IRS. Every year he extended his education by attending tax preparation classes/seminars.

Pete’s hobbies included golf, skiing, fishing, hunting and cooking. He hunted major game animals in Germany, England, Spain, Austria, Hungary, Australia, Canada, and Argentina,. He went on four safaris in Africa.  He attended cooking schools/classes in Italy, Mexico and France.  He traveled all 50 states and 56 foreign countries. His deep sea fishing adventures included Florida, Washington, Canada, Costa Rica and Alaska. During the five and half years he was stationed in Germany he skied the Alps, in Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.
