George B. Steiger

George B. Steiger was born August 13th, 1938, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Marice Steiger and Marie (Weber) Steiger.  He passed away on December 7th, 2018, in Burien, Washington, at age 78. 

He married his high school sweetheart, Janet Lawson, on December 28th, 1957.  He is survived by his wife, Janet, his daughters, Melodie Hayes and Melinda Stensaas, his sons Kevin and Scott Steiger, his grandchildren Savannah Steiger-Tetrault, Katherine and Jackson Steiger, Lindsey and Hannah Steiger, Rachel Broberg, and Casey Stensaas, as well as great-grandchildren Kyleigh Wolfe and Ocean and Remus Tetrault.

George grew up in Hamilton Ohio.  Upon graduating Hamilton Catholic High School he joined the United States Navy.  He was stationed at Oak Harbor Naval Air Station.  Once honorably discharged, he moved his young family to the Seattle area, where he was employed by United Airlines.  George also taught air transportation law and marketing at Highline Community College.  He raised his family in Des Moines,Washington.  He worked at United Air Lines as freight agent for 35 years, until he and Janet retired to Gig Harbor,Washington.  As a freight agent, George could figure out how to ship anything by air, up to and including a live orca whale.

George was a good and loving father and husband.  He loved his adopted state of Washington, the outdoors and the mountains.  He was fond of current events and was an avid life learner, a dedicated golfer, and aviation enthusiast.  He enjoyed spirited conversations, where he defended his various positions with absolute dedication.  He loved music, and encouraged young people in its study.
