George Edgar Hofferbert, age 89, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017, in Evergreen Hospice, Kirkland, WA.
George Hofferbert is survived by his sister, Alice Ritter of Minnesota; his children: George Ray, David, Chuck, Jerry, Linda and Mike, all living in WA; his 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins and relatives. He is preceded in death by his wife, Oleta Jean Hofferbert; his siblings: Clarence, Donald, Ed and Edna, of Minnesota.
George Hofferbert was born on February 20, 1928 in Parkers Prairie, Otter Tail, Minnesota, to parents, Edwin William Hofferbert and Myrtle Evangeline Hanes. He moved to Washington at age 16. He married Oleta Jean Stone, the love of his life for 62 years. George served in the U.S. Army in Korea, missing the birth of his first son. The couple had six children together, also helping raise several others as part of the family. George was a great family man: coaching his sons baseball teams; fixing vehicles; traveling for family vacations including hiking, skiing, rock hunting and site-seeing. Holidays were always close family celebrations with the extended families. George was a strong, active man who was deeply involved as a deacon in his church, also serving as a Christian school principal and supporting evangelistic outreaches. George worked at numerous positions at Boeing for 39 years of his life. His family and friends will always remember him as a responsible, serious, caring, praying, helpful and loving person. Cherished memories are ours to keep and share.
A funeral is scheduled for noon on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Lakeside Christian Church, Kirkland. Eric Malone will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George’s life. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at 11:15 at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent.
The family would like to thank Barton Funeral Service for all their great helpful support, condolences, expertise, coordination and transportation.
