Hisako Kawano Taucher died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, November 14, 2013. Hisako was born in Formosa (Taipei, Taiwan), in 1928.
Hisako was one of seven children and is survived by her son Walter Taucher of Seattle, Washington, her daughter Audrey Taucher of Washington DC, her sister Masako Smith of Tacoma, Washington, several siblings in Japan, and several nieces and nephews in the Seattle area and Japan.
Hisako immigrated to Washington State in 1955 with her former husband Fred Taucher and later became a naturalized citizen. She was an avid reader and appreciated classical music and the arts. She enjoyed spending time with her children and family and hosting elaborate Japanese feasts where she entertained friends and family with her wicked sense of humor.
Hisako spent most of her life while in the Pacific Northwest living in Edmonds. While a resident of Edmonds, she enjoyed clam digging, walking along the beach and walking through town. She also enjoyed road trips to La Conner for their tulip festival.
The family is grateful to Sandpoint Senior Care for the exemplary care and support they provided Hisako over the past seven years.
The family will conduct a memorial celebration and internment of her ashes this coming Spring.
