James Sterling Holmgren, born July 2, 1935 in Gooding Idaho, passed away with his family by his side on July 13, 2018. Beloved husband of Rae Holmgren, father of Robert Holmgren (Melodi) and Anna Boyle (Patrick). Grandfather to his two amazing grandchildren, Allison Grace (13) and Ryan James (11). Ally and Ryan adored their Papa and will cherish all the fun times they shared together.
Jim graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1955. Soon after graduation he was drafted into the Army where he served as medical assistant for 2 years. After returning to civilian life, he met and married the love of his life (the only girl he brought home to meet his parents) Rae Elmore on April 2, 1960. Jim went on to attend the University of Washington where he received his degree in Industrial Design.
Jim went to work for Walter Dorwin Teague & Associates, an industrial design firm, in 1966. He traveled to many countries, meeting with many dignitaries to design interiors of planes they had purchased from Boeing. Rae accompanied Jim on some of these work trips, visiting some of the most beautiful places in the world. He decided to retire early to spend more time with his family and travel with Rae. He also started his own design consulting firm, still working with many people from his time at Teague.
Jim enjoyed all life had to offer and was always up for any adventure, especially when it came to his grandchildren. He will be missed by so many whose lives he touched.
Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rae, son Robert (Melodi), daughter Anna (Patrick), two grandchildren Ally and Ryan, sisters-in-law Alma Winklesky and Joann Scheer and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Wally and Anna (Betty) Holmgren, his brother Robert Holmgren and sister-in-law Donna Holmgren.
At his request, there will be no funeral service. He will be buried at Tahoma National Cemetery with his immediate family present.
