Janet Louise Pisk
My mother Janet was born in Seattle, WA, to Phillip and Lucille (Foy) Oakley, in 1942. As a child she enjoyed many summers on her grandparent’s farm in Blaine with her younger siblings, twins Karen and Dale.
On 5 January 1962, she married Peter Thomas Pisk, and in 1964 (I) their daughter Ronda, was born. ‘Jan’ and ‘Pete’ were married nearly 49 years. Dad passed away 1/1/11. She missed him greatly, and had saved every anniversary and birthday card they’d exchanged – a tender testament to their close relationship.
One of Janet’s early jobs was for Triple XXX Rootbeer Drive-in. Later, she worked in print shops, first for the University of Washington, and later in Bellevue, WA. She worked several years for the City of Bellevue in Information Services, for which she was named Employee of the Year in 1990. She and Pete retired together in 1996.
Janet and Pete, (and other family members) loved taking driving trips, whether just for one day, or longer explorations to other states. They enjoyed eating out, and poking into various antique shops along the way. Jan also looked forward to trips with her friends to the Oregon Jamboree, to Reno and Vegas, Hawai’i, and many other destinations as well.
All her life, Janet had a deep love of horses and dogs. Her appaloosa horse, Ferro, was among her favorites, as was her rescue horse, Amuretta, (see photo). (I remember fondly our dogs, Snipper, a beagle/cocker spaniel mix, German Shepherd Sharona, and Frodo, a beautiful bear-like Australian Shepherd. Frodo always had the last ‘woof’ in an argument.)
The last two years of her life she lived at Brookdale Montclair Park Senior Living in Poulsbo, WA, closer to her family. Janet is survived by daughter, Ronda Broatch, and two grandchildren, Fiona and Duncan.
A committal service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, 5041 – 35th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98105. A celebration of life with be held at a later date – spring of 2018.
