Jean Corson Wolvington passed away after more than three years of treatment for metastatic breast cancer on Friday, October 14, 2016 at her home in Issaquah Washington. She was 70.
Jean was born March 6, 1946 in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Chester Elliott and Margaret Parks Corson. Jean was a graduate of Moline, Illinois, High School, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1968. On September 7, 1968 she married Howard William Wolvington in Baraboo, Wisconsin. The couple lived in Fairfax, Virginia, until 1997 when they moved to Issaquah, Washington, near Seattle.
Jean operated a custom wedding dress and alterations business from her Virginia home until moving and had been an accomplished active quilter since then. She has always been involved with music, singing in the choir at Fairfax Presbyterian Church, Fairfax, Virginia, where Howard was the organist, and playing handbells there as well. She served as Treasurer of that church and led the capital campaign for building renovation. After moving to Seattle she sang with the Faith Lutheran church choir in Bellevue, the First Methodist church choir in Bellevue, and then the last 15 years with the Bellevue Presbyterian church choir. She was an avid gardener, active with Chapter H.E. P.E.O., and with her Bible study group, with Block Party Quilters Club, and with Issaquah Quilters.
Jean is survived by her husband Howard; two children, Sandra (Gene) Sheih of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Matthew (Cathy) Wolvington of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; nine grandchildren; and brothers Craig Corson of Ames, Iowa, and Donald Corson of Sellersburg, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents and by Howard’s parents.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 2pm at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church.
