It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine Patricia Mary MacKay (Nolan) who left us on September 13, 2023, at the age of 71.

Born in Logstown, Kilcullen, County Kildare, Ireland on March 30, 1952, Kate was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend. Her free spirit led her from Ireland to Belgium, New York, Texas, New Jersey, Connecticut, and finally to the Pacific Northwest. She cared deeply about people she met and easily made lifelong friends everywhere she went.

Kate ultimately settled in Woodinville, Washington. There, she was introduced to her future husband, Craig MacKay. As a single father of two young children, Craig needed support — and like an angel, Kate jumped in to support Craig, care for the household, and help raise Katie and Andy. Slowly their relationship blossomed, and, in the end, they built a family together and cherished a 24-year marriage.

Kate’s favorite pastime was conversation. She relished a good chat. This gift of eloquence, reinforced by kissing the Blarney Stone, often created lasting friendships. A tour de force, Kate may well be best remembered as generous. She had the uncanny ability to recognize someone in need and the determination to help them. This was a common thread throughout her life. Whether it was a friend, family, or someone she had never met, Kate’s drive to help was second nature.

And above all, Kate cherished family. She leaves behind her loving husband Craig, children Katie and Andy, brothers Liam and Fred, sister Margaret and a wide circle of relatives and friends who will hold her memory close to their hearts.

Per her request, there will not be a service in the Northwest. There will be a celebration of life in Ireland next year. Donations may be made in her name to any organization that supports the care and well-being of animals.
