Kurt Thomas Hefner was born in Seattle, WA on May 1, 1950, the son and third child of James and Juanita (Davis) Hefner.
He was raised in Beacon Hill where he enjoyed causing lots of trouble, making a big ruckus with friends and embarrassing his big sisters. He spent his whole childhood in the same neighborhood, made life long friends and by luck and the skin of his teeth, graduated from Cleveland High School.
He married in 1986 to Donna (Thomas) West, whom he had known since they were in middle school. She had 2 daughters of her own and together blessed him with 2 more daughters. Even though their marriage was short lived they continued a friendship that lasted a lifetime.
He worked a variety of jobs, where he learned a lot and was able to do and fix anything you needed help with. He worked hard and loved to play hard too. He was good at everything he did…fixing cars, playing pool, golf or even telling jokes. One of his favorite things to do was to make people laugh. Whether it was at your cost or his, you were sure to be laughing in his presence. Like he would say,” it’s snot hard”
Kurt enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends, especially when sports were involved. Whenever you needed him, you could count on him. You could either find him at the golf course, a sporting event or with his girls, most likely at their sporting events as well. He took immense pride in his children and did absolutely everything for them.
He was selfless in his dedication to show up for those he loved. We just wish he did the same for himself and his health.
At the young age of 53, he suffered a massive stroke which led to an extremely limited life. This largely constrained Kurt physically and verbally, though he refused to let it dampen his love and ability to make us laugh. His positivity, resilience, and strength throughout was admirable beyond belief and taught us more than any words could have.
During these past 20 years, due to the love, strength and relationships he had built he still attended birthdays, holidays and sporting events. The last few years it became increasingly difficult for him as his health declined but he always kept a smile and made funny faces to cheer us up, even in his last hours. He left an irreplaceable void here on earth Tuesday, September 5, 2023 to join family and friends who have preceded him.
Kurt is survived by his children, Stacy Caves, Randi (Jason) West-Ward, Krissy Hefner, Kelly (Trevor) Jennings. Sisters Sandy McLeod, Carol Burnett. Grandchildren: Skyler, Jayden, Nikolas (Stacy); Dakota and Ethan (Randi); Kaydence (Krissy); Luke and Liam (Kelly), leaving a legacy of unconditional love and laughter!
He was preceded in-death by his parents, brother-in-law, son-in-law, and many extended family and friends.
