Kyle William Peterson Moens

Kyle William Peterson Moens, 26, unexpectedly walked into the arms of his Lord, Jesus Christ, on September 24, 2018. Kyle was born in Edmonds, WA on April 7, 1992, to Zan Marie Peterson-Moens and Alan William Moens. His only brother, Troy, is almost three years younger. Kyle lived in Bothell his entire life, attending Shelton View Elementary and Kenmore Junior High. Kyle graduated from Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, WA in 2010. He also attended Cascadia Community College studying pre-engineering. His attendance at Park Ridge Community Church became the stepping-stone to Kyle’s recommitment of his faith.

Kyle was extremely bright, and as a child, as all parents observe, they could see the wheels turning on his cherubic face as he considered new information. They read to him constantly and he surprised them by starting to speak his first words when he was ten months old. Very creative, Kyle loved to dress up and imagine himself as different characters in these books and later in the children’s Disney movies he watched. Alan can so vividly remember him wearing two baseball hats with the bills in opposite directions, pretending to be the “Great Mouse Detective.” Wearing costumes for Halloween was one of his favorite seasonal traditions of the year.

Zan and Alan remember how excited Kyle was to start kindergarten, and based on his perfunctory goodbye at the door, it was obvious he was impatient to start learning. As his character revealed in later life, Kyle was an “all in” person, and in first grade this was first evident as he devoted himself, beyond school, to learning everything Pokémon. His knowledge on the subject became encyclopedic. He loved to read voraciously, and his favorite topics were non-fictional, including science and how things worked. This became obvious on his ACT, as he earned a perfect science score.

His music interests started in fifth grade with clarinet, seventh grade with bassoon, and for Inglemoor’s marching band, the baritone saxophone. His social niche and favorite memories of high school revolved around his participation in marching band, which included football games, especially the blackout light stick homecoming performances, and band trips to Disney World and California’s Great America.

Fun family recreational activities over the years consisted of summers camping, skiing and vacation trips. Almost every winter weekend was spent at the family ski lodge at Snoqualmie Summit with their extended ski “family.” At nine years old, Kyle had his first ski lesson. He and Troy grew to love the snow sport and became expert skiers. Kyle blossomed on the slopes, and few had the opportunity to see the power, balance, athleticism, and the “light your hair on fire” speed he displayed while being in his element. On their last family vacation, Kyle found great joy scuba diving while in Kauai with Troy and his Dad. It was an activity he was looking forward to repeating on a future honeymoon.

Kyle worked at the Bonefish Grill Restaurant in Canyon Park first as a busser, and then transitioned into a server, apparently some guests thought Channing Tatum was serving them. Nine years in one restaurant showed the strength of his commitment, and the close relationships there became like family to him.

Kyle became involved in an entrepreneurial business venture with his mentor and best friend, Steve Beaumont, who introduced him to Enagic’s Kangen Water. Kyle was passionately building his business and enjoyed the satisfaction of helping others find health. Through his involvement with Enagic and the incredible friends he made, Kyle developed a great sense of confidence and poise. Through Steve many doors opened in Kyle’s life— church, business, and friends—which were the building blocks of this renewed life.

Finding the love of his life, Shannon, whom he adored, Kyle was planning to propose in November, and had selected her ring. As their relationship developed, he once again displayed his “all in” character being emotionally strong, displaying compassion, and offering encouragement, especially when she was hospitalized. Kyle was constantly going out of his way to put her first, serve her best interest, and help her pursue new ventures. He helped her to tear down limits and sparked a flame for her pursuit of Christ’s purpose in her life. When Shannon required treatment, Kyle would drop everything, staying overnight with her, providing her with company, comfort, support, and with his protective nature, became her refuge.

At Park Ridge, Kyle developed an assurance and zeal for the direction of his life, and that was constantly displayed through his desire for personal growth and in serving others. He deepened his tremendous love for God, his family, and his friends who miss him dearly. He quickly became actively involved in the “Manly Monday” men’s group, Tuesday Prayer Night, and served on the church’s security team. Ultimately, Kyle was committed to knowing God better and living for His purpose.

The immediate family was small, just the four, here in Bothell. Kyle, was loved intensely, unconditionally by them and they always saw in him great promise, and potential beyond measure. Kyle will be in their hearts forever!

He will be remembered for his warmth, his kindness, his constant “light up the room” smile, his infectious sense of humor, his vivacious laugh, his muscles, his incredible wit and always being willing to offer a huge, manly hug to anyone who was in need of one. He became a man of integrity and perseverance. Regardless of the length of his life here on Earth, we know with unparalleled conviction that in the eyes of the Lord, Kyle finished well!

Kyle’s Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, October 6th at 10am, at Park Ridge Community Church, located at 3805 Maltby Rd, Bothell, WA. Troy, as a US Naval Officer, is on active duty, and on a seven-month deployment, in the Middle East. There may be some travel complications as he makes his way home to join us for Kyle’s service.
