At the age of 83, Margaret Mary Gallert passed away on December 6th, 2022 at 7:45pm at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, WA. Margaret’s family was grateful to have spent an additional five months with her after she sadly suffered a stroke earlier in the year.
Margaret was born to Robert and Nancy Smith in Seattle, WA on May 17th, 1939. Her early childhood days were spent in Bellevue, WA along with her older sister and brother, Nancy Leah Smith (deceased) and Bobby Smith (deceased). Margaret attended Bellevue High School and then married Donald (Don) Gallert on April 4th, 1959, in Kirkland, WA. They raised their four children, Deborah (Debbie, deceased), Karen, Lorin and Robin in Bellevue. While Don worked as a propane truck driver until retirement in 1999 – putting in 40 years of hard work – Margaret held things down at home as a supporting mother and wife.
Margaret and Don resided in their Bellevue home for 50 years until Don’s passing in 2009. Margaret then moved to Redmond, WA, four doors down from her youngest daughter, Robin, where she was able to reside alone until July 2022. She spent her final days at Peters Creek Retirement Center, directly and conveniently behind Robin’s house.
Margaret was passionate about camping, traveling, needlework (crochet), scrapbooking, and spending time with family. Margaret enjoyed many things in her life, but she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends above all else. Margaret was loving, generous, social and family-oriented with a teasing sense of humor. All of the staff at Peters Creek had a good time with her.
Margaret is survived by her children, Karen, Lorin and Robin, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; and is also an honorary grandma to many others.
