Margaret Pauline Garman was born in Tacoma, Washington, on May 12, 1939. She graduated from Lincoln High School, in Tacoma, and earned degrees from Northwest College (of the Assemblies of God) and the University of Washington.

Margaret (also called Peggy) was known as an outdoor enthusiast. Several of her nieces and nephews recall their aunt taking them on cross-country snow-skiing adventures on Mount Rainer, near a cabin her father built.

Peggy worked as the Head Librarian at Northwest College (now University) from 1969-1977 after ten years of serving at the school as a student library assistant, cataloger, and assistant librarian. As a part of the campus community, she was known for being jovial, inquisitive, erudite, and eccentric.

At Northwest College, Miss Margaret Garman met Professor John Pope, and married him on August 26, 1978.

Peggy enjoyed attending the opera with her husband and could speak and read several languages. She was a guest speaker on the topic of Eastern Europe at the Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington (in Seattle) and on New Rules for College Libraries at Willamette University (in Portland, Oregon). Peggy was a guest librarian at the University of Bucharest; and with the organization Romanian Renewal International (in Bothell, Washington), she served as the librarian and coordinator for shipments of books to Romania.

Margaret (Peggy) Garman Pope is preceded in death by her mother and father: Verna E. Garman and Paul J. Garman, of Tacoma, WA. Peggy’s brother Douglas P. Garman, of Goldendale, WA, and husband John M. Pope, of Kirkland, WA, died subsequently in 2018 on March 11 and June 27, respectively.

Peggy is survived by nieces Dawn Garman Kidder, of Montezuma, GA, and Deborah Garman Gatchel, of Corpus Christi, TX; sister-in-law Geraldine L. (Duke) Garman, of SeaTac, WA; step-nieces Suzy E. Crume, of SeaTac, WA, and Kimberly A. Roberts, of Everett, WA; nephews Dwyane E. Garman, of Woodland Park, CO, and Daniel P. Garman, of Sandpoint, ID; and brother-in-law Bruce B. Pope, of Paducah, KY.
