Marilyn Jean (Langlow) Rooks
Marilyn Rooks, 83, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2010 in Redmond Washington. She was born in Edmonds, WA on July 26, 1926, the daughter of Irvin and Helen Cooper.
She was an amazing wife, mother, and friend, who lived and contributed her entire life in the Puget Sound area; most notably the past 60 years in Issaquah and Redmond. In the late 1940’s she could be seen out on Lake Sammamish in one of a very small handful of powerboats participating in a new sport called waterskiing. She also loved to fish. While raising her family, she was active in Order of Rainbow, and the Issaquah PTA where she was Chairperson of the Issaquah Council, and Oak Award winner. As Redmond Chamber of Commerce Manager in the early 1980’s, she was instrumental in helping many of the companies that were at the heart of Redmond’s tech industry growth period, including fledgling new ones named Physio-Control and Microsoft.
Marilyn is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 13 years Ted Rooks, her children Jean Knowles of Stanwood, Jim Langlow of Kirkland, Bob Langlow of Redmond, and her sisters Evelyn and Leona. She was most proud of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as anyone would quickly find out when visiting her.
At Marilyn’s request, there will be no Memorial Service. Instead she asked that all who knew her “just smile happily when you think of the fantastic trip I had with all of you”.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to any of her favorite charities; Special Olympics, Ronald McDonald House, or the Humane Society.
