Mary Pergamo, of Renton passed away on February 3, 2016 at Washington Care Center in Seattle. Mary was born in Sicily on November 3, 1933 to Rosario and Benadetta Caiola, who had returned there from the U.S. during the Great Depression. The family moved back to the U.S. in the late 1930s and Mary grew up in New York City. She married Joseph (Joe) Pergamo in 1960. In 1977 they moved to Renton, Washingon with their five children. Mary was predeceased by Joe in 1990.
Mary was a devout Catholic and a long time parishioner of St. Anthony’s church in Renton, where she attended mass daily and was a member of the Altar Society until illness made that no longer possible. Apart from the church and her family, Mary’s greatest pleasures in life included watching horror movies (the scarier and gorier the better!) and playing cards with the other residents of her apartment building.
Mary is survived by her sister Rose and brother Sam, by her children: Catherine, John, Anna, and Joe, and their spouses/partners; her grandchildren: Nick, Jeff, and Evan; and her great-grandchildren: Winter, Forest, and Wren.
A funeral mass for Mary will be held at St. Anthony’s church in Renton on Monday, February 15 at 10:30am, followed by a reception at the parish hall. Mary will be interred beside Joe in Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline.
