Betty Jean Johnson
Betty Jean Johnson, of Seattle, Washington, died at the age of 87 on April 27, 2016 after a brief illness.
Betty was born April 11, 1929 in Manson, Washington to Herbert and Freda Dye, and grew up in Leavenworth, Washington. She was the eldest of five children.
Betty spent her early working years as a bartender at several North Seattle taverns, where she honed her people skills. After leaving the bar-tending trade, she worked for several years at K-Mart in North Seattle in the Sporting Goods department. After K-Mart she went to work as a cashier for Bartell’s in downtown Seattle at Fifth & Olive. She truly enjoyed all the people she met, including quite a few baseball players and coaches that stayed at the Westin Hotel across the street. She worked at Bartell’s, commuting by bus, until she was 80 years old.
Betty was a staunch advocate for animals. She loved all “critters”. She and a neighbor would routinely go out and live trap feral cats round the neighborhood, bring them to the vet and pay to have them spayed or neutered. They would then re-release them into the wild. She always had a pet around the house.
Betty is survived by her daughter Terri Segadelli (Phil), son Brian Olson, sister Patricia Daviduke (Mike), brother Bill Dye (Judy), and sister Vicki Dye. She was predeceased by her mother and father, as well as a brother Herb.
Betty requested there be no services. Remembrances in her name can be made to the animal charity of your choice.
