Loveta “Sue” passed away peacefully Saturday morning, surrounded by all that loved her deeply. She was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Ollie Lovetta Cash (Overstreet) and Henry Gordon Cash of Hugo, Oklahoma. She was a member of the Choctaw Nation through her father’s mother.
Following the death of her mother in 1950, she spent her remaining childhood with her mother’s siblings, the Overstreet’s in either Los Angeles or Orange County. In 1955, she graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, CA. With great excitement, she visited Disneyland the same week it opened-July 17, 1955. She fondly remembers her first job at See’s Candy in Norwalk, California. She was a distant cousin of the country western entertainer Johnny Cash. They both shared the same great-great grandfather. Similarly, she was a direct cousin to the country western entertainer Tommy Overstreet.
She had her first son in 1956, Timothy Wayne and then her daughter, Debra Sue in 1960, both in Los Angeles County. She gave birth to her last child, Tyrone Floyd, a son at the Bremerton Naval Hospital in Washington State. She married her husband Billy in 1959 and was a military wife, based out of Southern California until his retirement out of the Navy in 1973. They were divorced in 1976. She then remarried in San Diego in 1978. She remained in San Diego until 1992 and then moved to Shoreline, WA to be closer to her son. From the 60’s to her early retirement in 1992, she held numerous jobs in the banking industry. She retired as an executive secretary at the offices of Union Bank in downtown San Diego, CA.
Her passions and lifestyle included the love of music, dancing, gardening, cooking, sewing and time with family. She had a great sense of style and loved both fashion and interior design. She was a beautiful, outgoing, open and friendly person who had many friends. Her family all enjoyed her southern style cooking and her “made from scratch” recipes. She was at her happiest when she was with family. She was a great mom and took tremendous pride to make sure all of her children were all well behaved, polite, groomed and presentable. Her proficiency in sewing led to her making a lot of her daughters’ clothes. Of great delight and amusement to her children who liked to tease her, she was very emotional and sentimental while watching any film. She was always easy going in this respect and took all kidding and teasing in stride. We will all miss her love and affection. You did good Momma. Rest in peace.
Her final internment will be with her beloved son Timothy Wayne Milton who preceded her death in 1987. They will both rest side by side at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego, CA. She is survived by her daughter Debra Sue Durkin of Dixon, CA, her son Tyrone Floyd Milton of Shoreline, WA, grandchildren Crystal Marie da Silva of Napa, CA, Dylan James Durkin of Dixon, CA and Christina Marie Cummings of Brunswick, GA. Her great-grandchildren are Marcus Whitt, DJ Cummings, and EJ Cummings all of Brunswick, GA.
