Victoria Reddy

The long and wonderful journey began a little over 99 years ago on the prairies in a small village called Nokomis between Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan Canada on March 26th 1915 where the weather was probably still sub freezing and snowing. Vickie was the 12th of 12 brothers and sisters schooled in a one room school house where they did in fact walk to school when the weather was 20-30 below zero in the cold winter days. Both parents had passed by the time she was 12 so she followed her older siblings to Tacoma, WA and attended Lincoln High School graduating at 16 years of age. Must have been that one room school house she attended or as the youngest in the class with her hand up to answer the questions the older kids couldn’t answer. She loved learning and could spell any word and explain its meaning. Working as a secretary proficient in short hand she saved enough money to travel from Tacoma to Tahiti for a nice vacation. Imagine what Tahiti was like in 1940!! With such a large family living in Tacoma it was only a matter of time before someone would introduce her to Bill Reddy who became her husband in 1943 until his death in 2006. Vickie always encouraged her kids to travel. She and Bill traveled more after the kids were grown. Probably her favorite pastime was bridge. It didn’t make any difference if she was teaching the game or playing seven no-trump!! She was a life master!! The long journey which started outside Nokomis to Tacoma was followed by a business move to Seattle living above Sand Point Naval Air Station (Magnuson Park) and then to Mercer Island in 1949 on the South end of the Island where she worked as the secretary for the Mercer Island Beach Club walking to work and playing bridge in the afternoons. Life couldn’t get much better than that. She is survived by her sons Jim and Tom Reddy, daughter Penny Storie of Issaquah. There are 7 grandkids and 9 great grandkids.
