Kathryn Adele Grissom
1944 – 2013
Kay passed Monday September 23, 2013 from lung cancer, she was 68 years old. Kay lived in Renton, was born in Burien and lived most of her life in the Seattle area.
Kay was born on December 31rst, 1944 to Albert and Esther Larson. She was a feisty, sharp woman that was beloved by her family and friends. A generous woman, she spent 10 years caring for her mother until her mother died, and a lifetime caring for her family. Kay was a long-time volunteer at the King County Library and active member of Friends of the Fairwood Library. She spent countless hours volunteering at her granddaughters schools over the years and was always active with the PTA when her daughters were in school.
She coached softball games and led campfire groups, taxied kids to and from everywhere, fed half the neighborhood and never missed a school performance. She did all of this while holding a full-time job for decades at N.C. Machinery and then at First Interstate Bank.
Kay enjoyed family. She also enjoyed fishing, camping, crabbing and any time spent at the beach. She was a big Mariners fan, was active with her political party and enjoyed reading Sci-fi and fantasy books. She collected teapots and dragons and had a successful E-bay business selling the books and other collectables that she had no room to store. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends and having long lunches with her lifelong friend Judy. She was known to sing in public. Loud.
She is survived by her husband Steve, daughters Nicole and Danielle, Grandchildren Riley and Jaxen and sister Kris.
Kay will be cremated and her ashes scattered over Beaver Lake this spring so she can be with her mother.
