Born October 2, 1930 in Marshalltown, Iowa; passed way at home in Edmonds, WA on June 2, 2013.
He was “Dad” to 4 children, and “Papa” to 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
After high school, Wayne served 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Washington with his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then pursued a career in Underwater Research at the Applied Physics Lab at the University of Washington. His career at the University allowed him to travel from the Arctic to the Mediterranean and the Far East.
Wayne retired at 55, which gave him and his wife Barb the opportunity to do some traveling. They spent many winters in Arizona and summers camping and fishing with friends and family. Some of his children’s favorite memories are of him playing his ukulele and singing around the campfire at night.
Wayne also enjoyed dancing, flying radio controlled model airplanes and playing cards.
He adored his children and grandchildren but he especially loved the little babies. He could be found at any family gathering holding and rocking one of the little ones.
Wayne was a beloved husband of 56 years, a loving father and a loyal friend. He took pride in helping his family (he could fix anything) and was a man to be counted on.
A memorial will be held for friends and family to celebrate Wayne’s life later this summer.
