Song Weol Ahn, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away March 2, 2012, 6:13 PM at Evergreen Hospice Center, Kirkland, WA after battling cancer since June 2010. She passed away peacefully surrounded by those who loved her at age of 73 joining her husband, Sam Man Ahn, who’d passed away January 4, 2011. She’s survived by 4 children and 11 grandchildren.
Song Weol Ahn was born September 23, 1938 in rural Kwang Ju, South Korea to Nan Deuk Kim (mother, 8/2/1917 – 2/13/2005) and Soon Ok Chun (father, 5/2/1916 – 9/4/1949) during the times when Korea was occupied by Japanese forces. She married at an age of 19 and had 4 children soon after. She came to USA in 1973 lived mostly in Anchorage AK until she established a residence in Kwang Ju, South Korea in 1979. She loved to describe herself as a ‘best friend’ to her children and worked hard to ensure her children got along as a family.
Memorial service in honor of her memory was held on March 3, 2012 at “Reflection Room” in Evergreen Hospice Center. It was a beautiful service officiated by Paster Byung Il Lee and attended by most of her children and grandchildren. During the service, a ray of sunshine shone on the face of her portrait on an easel and stayed there for most of the service. That ray of sunshine was not present anywhere else in the room giving those in attendance a sense that she was in that room making that small miracle happen.
