Daniel Ray McBride, 67, US Army veteran, passed away in his West seattle home on July 22, 2011. He served in the Army as a vehicle mechanic and clerk typist. Stationed primarily in Germany he was drafted in 1965 and separated as a Sp4 in 1967.
Both before and after his military obligation he worked as an American Can line inspector in Seattle for a total of 10 years. He later worked as an automobile and motorcycle mechanic. Daniel was a 1962 graduate of West Seattle High; and the American Motorcycle Institute in Daytona, Florida and became a certified motorcycle mechanic. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, piloting his boat, fishing and riding his motorcycle. Living in many different places such as Pensacola, Florida; Washington DC; Little Rock, Arkansas where he worked as an auto mechanic for Balch Oldsmobile; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Monterey, California, he found new friends wherever he went. He was personable, always willing to help people out when in need.
Daniel was born to Walter and Olive (Gagnon) McBride on June 19, 1944, in Seattle, He was proceeded in death by his mother and father, older brother Larry, and his beloved Bichon Frise doggy, Bunni. His former wife, Commander, U.S. Navy (Retired) Mary Lou McDaniels of Wichita, Kansas arranged his memorial and internment at his family’s plot alongside his parents and brother in Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Seattle. He was given proper military rights with an Honor Guard from Ft. Lewis and a bugler sounding a farewell Taps. Daniel served his country during the tense years of the Cold War and his country is grateful for his service.
