Jay Myoung Yoon, MD, of Mukilteo, Washington, died on May 18, 2017. He was 70 years old.
Born in South Korea, he attended Seoul National University for both undergraduate and medical school. He graduated in 1967 and 1971, and was summa cum laude for both undergraduate and medical school. He then joined the South Korean army and was a captain for four years.
Immigrating to the US in 1974, he did his medical training at the Albert Einstein University in New York City.
Dr. Yoon moved to Indiana in 1980, and had a private oncology/hematology practice in Beech Grove, Indiana, working closely with many doctors and nurses at St. Francis Hospital. He moved to Mukilteo, Washington in 1998, taking a year off to travel. He had a medical practice in Edmonds, Washington from 1999-2012.
Dr. Yoon is survived by his wife, Laura J. “Janie” Yoon, and his children, Ann Yoon of Indiana, Grace Yoon, of Maryland, and Jay Yoon, Jr., of Malaysia, and David Tapscott of Indiana. Dr. Yoon had two grandchildren, Gabriel Belote of Indiana, and Freddy Yoon of Malaysia.
Dr. Yoon was an extraordinary man, known for his sense of humor, his courage, and his strong determination. He has received numerous awards, and has cured many patients from various cancers. Dr. Yoon has several charities, and has long been an advocate of the poor. He enjoyed gardening, fine dining, wine tasting, and was a world traveler. He will be missed greatly.
Services will be held at Barton’s Funeral Home in Kirkland, Washington from 1pm until 3pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2017.
