Roberta Koenig

Surrounded by loving family members, Bertie Koenig passed away peacefully on October 20, 2017 in the comfort of her Bellevue, WA home at the age of 74. Like a best friend or sister, she will be deeply missed by her children Karin and Rod, as well as her grandchildren Kristy, Julie, Michelle, Kara, Micah, & Dustin.

Sharp and spirited from day one, Bertie became independent at the age of fifteen to pursue a life with her high school sweetheart, Wed Koenig.  They married, formed a band, and hired a bass player. Wes played lead guitar and sang backup while she played the drums and often sang lead –  inspiring thousands with her radiant voice

A genuine earth angel at heart, Bertie thrived on enriching the lives of anyone who came into her presence- friends, family, and strangers alike. Laughter and camaraderie let the good times roll at the frequent parties Bertie and Wes hosted over the years.

Many will remember her for her generosity, as she gifted all who stopped by her home with helpful necessities, homemade goodies, profound companionship, and heartfelt hugs. If you were lucky enough to be Bertie’s neighbor, you probably enjoyed exchanging services for her skilled haircuts or delicious pies!

Affectionately connected with nature, Bertie loved plants and would often be found nurturing her beautiful garden, and even tending the landscape of her neighbors.

Despite being cursed with lifelong chronic pain from a spinal injury at age five, Bertie’s endearing “tough cookie” disposition always kept her smiling. Her contagious aura never ceased to encourage.

Bertie had an infectious spirit, embracing her youthful sense of humor and independence throughout her life. She was a musician, a pool shark, a bargain hunter, a giver, an awesome pie-baker, a casual sage, and a loyal friend to many.

There will be a Celebration of Life for those who knew Bertie to come enjoy a last farewell from her physical being. It will be held at the Everett Yacht Club on November 11, 2017 from 12:00 TO 2:30 pm. You’re welcome to participate while we send her off to cruise in Bertie’s T-bird in the sky.
