Bob Crandall
Robert (Bob) L. Crandall of Woodinville passed away peacefully on November 19, 2017 with his family at his side. He had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Bob was born May 1, 1940 in the Kirkland General Hospital to Harold R. Crandall and Lucille B. (Counley) Crandall. At the time of Bob’s birth, his Mom and Dad resided at the “Hollywood Garage in Rural King County” “on Woodenville Redmond Highway” where his Dad was a mechanic. The garage was known as Hollywood Corner Service Station, Mabel’s Tavern and The Hollywood Tavern.
Bob grew up in Kirkland and after graduation from Lake Washington High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1960. While in the Air Force, he studied mechanical, architectural, electrical, civil and structural engineering. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Bob was employed by several engineering and mechanical firms in Seattle.
In 1967, he moved to Vancouver, B.C. became a Landed Immigrant, married his true love L. Ann McFadden from Campbell River B.C. in Vancouver where their first son was born.
In 1975, Bob and family moved to Washington to be close to his aging parents. In 1976 they settled in Woodinville and their 2nd son was born in Seattle the following year.
In 2005, Bob and Ann renewed their wedding vows on April 30 as part of 100 Weddings in Kirkland – a Centennial Event – at the Marina Park pavilion overlooking Lake Washington.
After moving to Woodinville, Bob worked for Bumstead-Woolford/Zurn/Nepco as a mechanical designer for steam and power plants for several years.
He was a real family man, he loved his boys whole heartedly and served as a Cub Scout Den Leader Pack 573, with his love of cars, his favourite cub activity with the boys was the Pinewood Derby, together they came up with some pretty cool looking cars. Bob was quite involved in the boys’ soccer teams for several years and was a coach and an assistant coach while they were in the Northshore Youth Soccer Association. He didn’t miss a game no matter what the weather rain, hail or the occasional snow fall. He enjoyed the outdoors and camping with the boys until they decided they were too old to camp with the parents.
Another love of Bob’s was photography, in the mid-90’s, he pursued photography full time dba Creative Photography & Design. He was a member of The Seattle Professional Photographers Association and served on the board for several years. Weddings and Senior High School portraits were his favourite subjects plus a lot of local scenic photography around the Woodinville area. Bob donated some of his Woodinville photos to the Woodinville Heritage Society. At one time, in the early years, he worked with Carol Edwards, founder of The Woodinville Weekly, contributing photos to the newspaper.
He enjoyed puttering on his cars and showing his 1971 Monte Carlo at car shows throughout the region and Vancouver Island, BC. He was a member of The Rodtiques Car Club where he volunteered taking photos of the cars at The Cruzin’ Colby car show in Everett. He was a member of the Thursday Night Garage Assoc. TNGA – No Rules-No Dues-Just Cruzin’ Fun…a group of car enthusiasts.
Bob is survived by his wife Ann of 45 years, his sons Trevor of Culver City, CA and Kevin (Holly) of Everett.
He will be deeply missed by friends, family and all that knew him. He maintained his wry sense of humor all the way to the end.
