Eileen Patricia “Pat” Hornall Tanac passed away on December 3, 2018. She was born March 2, 1922 at the Snoqualmie Falls Hospital, Snoqualmie, WA, to parents Thomas and Princess Stitham Hornall. Pat attended 1st and 2nd grade, sporadically. She was diagnosed with Tuberculosis in the 3rd grade, spending 6 months in bed. Her mother taught her through the 8th grade, at home. Pat was home schooled before the word was coined! She entered Tolt High School as a freshman, graduating in 1940. The following year, she was the housekeeper for a family on Queen Anne Hill, and then entered the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. During school, Pat worked part-time at Stoneway Pharmacy and, later, at Hart’s Apothecary Shop. After graduating in 1945, she chose to work for L.D. Bracken Pharmacy on 2nd Ave. in Seattle, for 5 years.
Pat met Robert Tanac, of Everett, WA, in Pharmacy School. After his sophomore year, he entered the Army. Following training at Camp Lee, Virginia, he was shipped to Paris to serve in the Quarter Master Corp for a year. Bob was discharged in January, 1945 and reentered Pharmacy School, graduating in 1947. He and Pat were married February 24, 1946.
Joyce Eileen was born September 27, 1950. Wesley James was born May 10, 1953 on Mother’s Day.
During the 60’s Pat was very involved with Lambda Kappa Sigma, a professional fraternity for Women in Pharmacy. She served in many offices on the Grand Council, including Grand President for two terms from 1966-1970. She traveled to various colleges and Schools of Pharmacy, visiting LKS Chapters during those years. She was presented with the Distinguished Service Citation for her years of service and dedication. She continued her interest with the local Chi Alumni Chapter.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Princess Stitham Hornall and Thomas Hornall, sisters Barbara Hornall Todd, Kaye Hornall Kooistra, brother-in-laws, Harry Todd and Robert Kooistra.
Pat is survived by her husband of 72 years, Robert, daughter, Joyce (George) Schroeder, son, Wesley (Dianne) Tanac, grandchildren Julie (Drew) Schroeder Gillespie, Nathan (Emily) Schroeder, Molly Ann (Eric) Tanac Druliner, Mallory (Doug) Tanac Hill and great-grandchildren Caden and Gavin Druliner and Braden Gillespie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The University House 4400 Stone Way N. Seattle, 98103 at 1:00 on Saturday, December 8. In honor of Pat, donations may be made to “Lambda Kappa Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter” c/o Nancy Horst 17404 Ashworth Ave. N. Seattle WA 98133.
