Millie passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 with family by her side. She was born August 5, 1924 in Illinois where she met her future husband, W. John Sheen. They were married for nearly 70 years when he preceded her in death in 2012. They spent their first decades together traveling the country as a Navy family then settling in Seattle. Through the years, they continued to travel the world and enjoyed camping, skiing and playing golf while spending the winter months in Arizona where Millie became a lawn bowling champion.
Family came first and all felt deeply loved and welcomed by Millie. Her home included a nursery and extra beds for endless sleepovers and out of town guests. She took great pride in her 4 sons, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and was often seen in the stands cheering them on at various sporting events. She was a big Mariners fan and some favorite family memories include the whole Sheen clan attending Mariners games. She loved to laugh and share stories of growing up like driving at 13 when no license was required, singing in her brother’s band and winning an amateur singing contest on Chicago radio. Life was full and exciting.
Millie enjoyed life and accomplished everything she set out to do, from cooking, cake decorating and gardening to crafting hobbies and side projects. While raising her boys, she was immersed in Navy Wives Club and church activities emphasizing her values of patriotism and love of God. She was a gracious hostess who opened her home for countless gatherings and celebrations. She established numerous family holiday traditions that still live on today. Everyone was blessed by her hospitality along with her amazing appetizers, meals, cakes and pies from scratch, which often included fresh ingredients from her garden. Many of her recipes are cherished and will be a little sprinkle of her love for generations to come.
