Peggy Sue Staton, 80, Thorne Bay Alaska, went home to heaven on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. After being ill for several years she succumbed to chronic complications from diabetes while under hospice care at her daughters home in Mill Creek, WA.
Peggy was born October 11, 1940 in Cortez Colorado to Samuel Ann and Marjorie Elizabeth Leech. The family moved around a lot when she was young. She even mentioned that she attended 5 different schools when she was in the seventh grade. She graduated from Glendale High School in Glendale, California. She attended classes at UCLA but married and started a family. She worked as an admitting clerk then bookkeeper at Monte Sano Hospital in Glendale, California.
By 1968, she relocated to Bayview, Washington where her parents had property. There she briefly worked in the tulip fields until moving her family to Concrete, WA, in the summer of 1970. Peggy worked for a few years at Albert’s Serve U before getting hired at the US Forest Service stationed in Birdsview, WA. She ultimately relocated one final time to Thorne Bay Alaska where she worked as a Realty Specialist and retired from the Tongass National Forest Service.
Preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Samuel Leech and a grandson, Christopher John Zitkovich.
Survived by her husband Russ Staton, son Bobby Woodworth and his wife Donna; step-son J Troy Woodworth; daughters Tami Green and husband Rick, Mickey Zitkovich and husband John. Grandchildren; Jonathan Woodworth, Benjamin Steimle, Jessica Massingale, Brian Steimle, Rochelle Benson, David Woodworth, Kayla Ludwig and Keegun Zitkovich. Great grandchildren; Soren Massingale, Genevieve Martin, Savanna Massingale, Micah Martin, Mason Woodworth, Emily Woodworth, Henry Ludwig and Hadley Ludwig.
The family would like to extend overwhelming gratitude to the hospital staff at Ketchikan PeaceHealth Medical Center and Evergreen Home Health Care in Washington.
Private graveside services will be held in the near future.
