James A. Roberts, 72, of Yelm, WA passed away peacefully on December 14, 2021 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia, WA.
He was born March 1,1949 in Fairmont, MN and raised in the small town of Welcome, MN where he lived with his parents and eight siblings. After graduating from Welcome High School in 1967 he began attending community college and later, enlisted into the US Army.
The Army led James to Washington state where he settled and had a family. He found joy in coaching his daughter’s fastpitch league and loved to cruise around in his favorite convertible of the times as was a shared hobby of his son’s. He received his B.A. from Evergreen State College and worked for Twin County Credit Union for a number of years before it changed its name to TwinStar Credit Union. In the early 1990s he worked for the State of Washington Labor & Industries until he retired 20+ years later.
He lived out his free time enjoying what he wanted to do, yet always making sure to catch a sports game played by his home state teams: the Vikings or Twins, whether on the road via satellite radio, with friends and family or on his home T.V.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney & Adeline Roberts; brother, Jon Roberts, sister, Linda Dunbar, brother-in-law, Michael Bentley and sister-in-law Marlene Roberts.
Survivors include: his daughter, Dawn (Michael Kent) Bostrom of Bay St. Louis, MS; son, Brian (Christen) Roberts of University Place, WA; three grandsons, Dylan Tout, Jake Tout & Kolton Bostrom, one great grandchild, Daxton Tout and six siblings; Marcia Jarett, Rickie (Ranae) Roberts, Susan (Mack) Johnson, Jennifer (Bob) Smith, Pamela Bentley, Thomas (Delores) Roberts and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held on June 27th, 2022, time, TBD, at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA.
