Ulrike Geertgens
Our lives were changed forever on December 30th, 2021 when we said goodbye to our wonderful mom and grandma, Ulrike Geertgens, known as Uli to her family and friends.
She was born in Kirchlengern, Germany on March 3, 1945. She moved to Holladay, Utah with her parents and older sister Hilka, and brother Jorg. She attended Olympus High School where she met Curt. They married in 1965 when he was in college. After college in 1968, after Steve was born, they moved to Livermore, CA. Over the next few years, Chris, Aimee, and Aaron were born.
The Geertgens family of 6 moved to Issaquah, Washington (now Sammamish) in March of 1978. The house they bought and owned ever since became home to countless wonderful memories of 4 kids and later four beautiful grandchildren, Max, Noah, Ariana, and the newest, Annabelle. All of her kids live in Washington state—Chris Geertgens (Renton), Aimee and Maximus Geertgens (Snoqualmie), Aaron, Rena, Noah, and Ariana Geertgens (Maple Valley), and Steve, Sandy, and Annabelle Geertgens (Seattle).
She enjoyed camping and took some memorable trips to one of her favorite campsites on South Beach with her brother Jorg. She also loved to vacation at Long Beach and relax on Cannon Beach. On sunny afternoons, she enjoyed biking at Alki beach.
Mom will be missed every day and especially on birthdays and holidays. She has a special way of making all of the grown-ups feel like kids at Christmas with stockings filled to the brim and all the trimmings for the holidays. She will be remembered for her loving and caring heart, putting everyone else first. Her love and commitment to family will live on in each of us as we strive daily to make her proud. When we think of her, it will be with her big loving smile and adoration in her bright and beautiful eyes.
She was preceded in death by her sister Hilke Cornelius, and her parents Walter and Lieselotte Oepping.
There are times in life when the words ‘thank you’ just don’t cover it- this is one of those times. However, for all its worth- Thank you, Mom! We love you!
Forever in our hearts, until we meet again.
