Sylvia Florence Lief (Sarah Grad)

With great sadness, we announce that on December 1, 2022, Sylvia Florence Lief (Sarah Grad) completed her journey on this earth at age 85. Her last day was spent at her home of 52 years, where she went peacefully onto God.

Sylvia was the second of three children born to Alex and Annette Lief. As a Seattle native, Sylvia attended Garfield High School and Seattle Central Community College and quickly earned a Medical Receptionist certificate. Although learning was meaningful to Sylvia, her primary focus was family. A large portion of her life was devoted to raising her six children Stephani, Rick, Brenda, Leslie, Michael, and Suzane.

Sylvia was a social butterfly and enjoyed many activities over the years, including volleyball, line dancing, and bowling. Sylvia would volunteer at the local voting stations and her church’s clothing bank as a servant to her community.

Sylvia’s faith in God was unmoving. For almost four decades, she was a Kirkland Seventh Day Adventist member. It was a rare day for her parishioners not to see her on Saturdays for service. She enjoyed bible study, potlucks, and participating in many church events.

Having lived a long life, Sylvia outlived many of her loved ones, including her parents, siblings, aunties, and uncles. With a sadness unmeasured, she also survived her son, Michael (1988).

Her children were her heart, and her grandchildren were her light and joy. She leaves behind her remaining children, Stephani, Rick, Brenda, Leslie, and Suzane, 17 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.

Sylvia’s passion for people will live on through the lives she touched.

A memorial will be held at Kirkland Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 6400 108th Ave NE, Kirkland, WA 98033, Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 4 pm.
