The Celebration of Life for Vern Heying will be on Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 1:00-5:00 PM, at Murano Senior Living in Seattle. Vern passed away at home with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Vern enjoyed life, was well loved and a fantastic example of a man to all.
Vern ‘Reno’ Heying
Vern was born on Easter Sunday to Bernard and Katherine (Kohorst) Heying in Richmond and had 15 siblings. He married Carol Foster on September 27,1958 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Monticello, and together they raised three children. The family of five moved to Seattle in 1969. Vern & Carol moved to Anacortes in 1992, built a home together, and lived there until returning to Seattle in 2019. As a young man, Vern worked for his family’s ice business and at Cold Spring Granite. He graduated from high school in 1948. In 1951 he went to a trade school and became a Depot Agent for the Great Northern Railroad He received promotions to various positions over the years becoming a Manager of Stations. He retired from the Burlington Northern in 1988 after 36 years of service, where he was recognized as a gentleman and hard worker. After retirement, Vern worked part time as a school bus driver until 2013 and was admired by many students.
Vern is survived by his wife of 64 years Carol, his children Susan Harris, Seattle; Mark (Karen) Heying, Lake Stevens; Mary (Mike) Mitchell, Marysville; grandchildren Brian (Yolanda), Beau, Aun, Jamie (Adam), Joshua, Nicky (Kyle), Stazia, Anya (Russell) and Cody; great grandchildren Jordan, Boden, Amelia, Elsie, Nora, Aria and Lochlyn: brother Linus Heying, Waite Park, MN; and many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Katherine, his infant grand-daughter Bonnie Sue, and his siblings Henry Heying, Barney Heying, Eugenia “Ginny” Butala, Celestine “Les” Heying, Joseph Heying, Alverius Heying, Antonette Kammers, Edwin Heying, Alvina McDermott, Sr. Mary Bernard Heying, OSB, John “Hans” Heying, Raymond Heying, Leonard Heying, and Lorenz Heying.
