1932 – 2023
Marilyn was born in Newton, MA and spent her childhood there with summers spent on Martha’s Vineyard, solidifying her life-long love of the Vineyard and sandy beaches.
After graduating from Penn Hall, she worked at Raytheon, where she met her husband, Morrie. They were married July 2, 1955 and lived in Waban, but eventually settled in Needham. In Needham, Marilyn and Morrie was very active in Christ Church and the community. When her girls were growing up, summers were spent in Chatham and involved lots of time spent swimming and sailing.
After Morrie died, Marilyn moved to Waltham and returned to spending time on her beloved Martha’s Vineyard. She also joined the Church of the Advent in Boston, where she was an active member of the altar guild. A friend at the Advent re-introduced her to the Red Sox and she became a die-hard fan. She loved watching ‘her boys’ at Fenway and followed them closely wherever they played.
Spending time at the beach was Marilyn’s favorite past-time. Wherever there was a beach, you could find Marilyn walking with her head down looking for shells. She also had quite a green thumb and never met a plant she didn’t like.
Marilyn was pre-deceased by her husband Morriss ‘Morrie’ A. Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Smith of Boston, MA and Tracey Smith (Doug Redfield) of Eastsound, WA, her granddaughter, Margaret ‘Teddy’ Redfield of Chicago, IL and her beloved cat, Doodle.
