Catherine (“Cassie”) Sawyer, at 62, was a force to be reckoned with. She made the impossible happen, and at times could simply be ‘impossible’. Cassie was born in Vero Beach, Florida, and grew up in Winston Salem, NC, but lived in West Seattle for the last forty years. She had a large contingent of a committed and loyal ‘family of friends’ from many walks of life. After a distinguished 36-year career with Delta as an international flight attendant, she retired to follow other pursuits.
Additionally, she creatively and fastidiously designed and maintained an Airbnb in West Seattle. She achieved the status of a “Super Host”, and she truly was a “Super Host”. She was an active and aesthetic gardener, and handy with any kind of tools. She was passionate about life and loved to travel. Charming, tenacious, and unorthodox throughout her life, she held strong to her views and was an avid supporter of causes she believed in.
Cassie fought unceasingly with every known and lesser-known modality against cancer. Despite her unwavering determination, she left this world on December 29th, hours after her circle of friends surrounded her with prayers, appreciations, songs, and music. At the end she took leave with her devoted partner, Maryann Schulten, at her bedside. Cassie was passionate about the environment, alternative medicine, nutrition, and those for whom she cared.
A celebration of life will be held in the Spring. Donations in memory of Cassie can be made to:
