It is with deep sadness that his children announce the death of Otto Machala, who passed away in Redmond, Washington on October 2, 2014 at the age of 96. Otto was born in Chicago, Illinois and lived in and around Chicago and the western suburbs most of his life, moving to the Seattle area with his wife Irene (deceased August, 2006) in 2002. He is survived by his son, Joe (wife, Carole); and daughters Joyce (husband, Rick Watt) and Janis (husband, David Stenberg) and his niece and goddaughter, Cathy Ruiz, who was like another daughter in the Machala family.
Otto was known for the constant values that graced his life; courtesy toward others, his ethical principles and a willingness to extend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He was admired for his sense of humor, his love of chatting with everyone who walked through the door or he met on the street, being the consummate handyman and a smart-devious card player.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association (http://www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp), a mass in his name, or to your favorite charity if you’d like to remember Otto in some way.
