Peter Kearns Smith, a longtime resident of Guilford, CT passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019, in Kirkland, WA. Born on March 11, 1942, in Stamford, CT, he was the son of the late Margaret Kearns and John Creasey Smith. He was 77.
After graduating from New Canaan High School, Peter attended the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
In 1969, Peter married Pamela Residori and the couple eventually settled in Guilford where they raised their two children, Patricia and David. Peter then entered graduate school and earned his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of New Haven. He built a career as an Investment Advisor, taught Finance at local colleges and served as Treasurer with the Friends of Hammonasset.
Peter was an avid cyclist, loved birding and regularly visited Hammonasset State Park.
His greatest joys in life were his children and grandchildren with whom he laughed, played and shared his love of education.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Pamela, his two children, Patricia Smith-Bell and her husband, Eric, and David Smith and his wife, Nurys, and three grandchildren, Grace, Vivian and Andres. He is also survived by his younger brother, John Joseph Smith and his wife, Joyce, and many nieces and nephews. Peter was preceded in death by his older brother, Paul Creasey Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2019, at Saint George Catholic Church, 33 Whitfield Street, Guilford, CT 06437.
