Philip Leonard Peterson, Jr., “Pete”
Philip Leonard Peterson, Jr., “Pete,” 87, went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2014. Phil was born in Spokane, WA on Feb. 25, 1927 to Thelma Sherer Peterson and Philip Leonard Peterson, Sr. and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane in 1944.
Following high school, he attended the University of Idaho and pledged Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He then served in the Army from 1945-47. Returning from Sapporo, Japan, he attended the University of Washington and graduated in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and a commission in the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. He was employed by Pacific Northwest Bell/U.S. West in Seattle for 36 years as a systems analyst and retired in 1989. Serving in the United States Air Force Reserve for 28 years, he retired in 1987, as a Lieutenant Colonel.
His avocation was serving as an ordained Deacon in the Episcopal Church for over 20 years, starting in
1972. He assisted at St. Dunstan’s and the Highlands Parish under Fr. W. Robert Webb and Trinity and St. Peter’s Parish, Seattle under Fr. Paul Langpap and Fr. Alan Parker.
His relatives left behind include Zan Peterson-Moens, daughter, (Alan Moens), and grandsons Kyle and Troy Moens. Many others survive him: Judy Ann Castle, fiancée, who lovingly cared for him at the end of his life. Mary Little Peterson, his first wife and Zan’s mother. His second former wife, Leona Mackovicz Peterson and her children; Sheila Mackovicz Morgan, and her children (his step grandchildren) Melissa Morgan and Josh Morgan (Yan), and step great grandchild, Atrayu, as well as Tim and Jim Mackovicz.
Phil enjoyed deep-sea charter and steelhead fishing, sightseeing, traveling, visiting the ocean, and watching the Huskies, Mariners and Seahawks. He is remembered for his warmth, great sense of humor and infectious laugh.
The funeral service with a reception following will be held on Saturday, November 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2301 Hoyt Ave, Everett, WA. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the American Cancer Society may be made in Phil’s name.
