Richard Lee “Dick” Reinertson was born in Seattle on September 4, 1943. He passed suddenly from a cardiac arrest at Harborview Medical Center on Sunday, October 26, 2014.
Dad grew up in the north end of Seattle and graduated from Shoreline High School.
He started in the grocery business as a box boy at Tradewell in North City when he was 16. In 1965 he worked at Pick & Pay It in Ballard where he met Carol. They got married on August 11, 1967 at St. Paul’s of Shorewood Lutheran Church in Burien.
During his career, Dad managed several grocery stores before going to work as a Food Broker.
After he retired in 1997, he was active in many different organizations before becoming president of Wellington Hills Golf and Country Club.
Dad loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed playing golf, working in the yard and spending time on the deck during summer. Dad liked watching the numerous hummingbirds that inhabited the yard and hanging bird feeders he could see from the kitchen window.
Dad loved to decorate the outside of the house for every holiday. The decorations belong in specific places and must be put up just so! (He was a true Hallmark spouse)
Dad always looked forward to playing Santa every Christmas at Hallmark. He took his Santa duties very serious; coxing smiles from crying children, posing for numerous pictures, answering letters and making memories.
Dad always had time to help the neighbors, many stopping to chat or admire his unique walking stick.
Dad had an outgoing personality that made you feel like you’ve known him forever, even if you just met him.
Dick is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Rebecca; grandson, Malik; brothers, Don and Dale; sister, Cathy Morton and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dick was a special Dad to Krista and Lara; special Papa to MJ, Marcus, Sam and Davis.
Dick was a wonderful friend and neighbor to Jim and Miki Farmer for over 45 years.
Dick will be missed by all.
