Robert L Averill

On January 8, 2014, Robert L. Averill passed away peacefully at home after a long and productive life, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82. Born in 1931, and raised in Des Plaines, Illinois, Robert joined the U.S. Army and fought in Korea, traveling throughout the PacificOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA during his tour of duty. After the war, Robert settled in Seattle and married Audrey Lucille Rice, his loving wife and partner for 60 years. While simultaneously raising a family, Robert earned a Masters in Civil Engineering at the U.W., and launched a successful 35-year career at Boeing, where he worked on several key projects and mentored many young engineers.
 
In retirement, Bob traveled extensively throughout Europe with Lucille. Later, he divided his time between his Seattle home and Ocean Shores. He is survived by his wife Lucille, son Stephan Averill, daughters Laura Averill, Linda Averill and Jennifer Wilson, and by five grandchildren, Erin Averill, Abbey Averill, Aurora Averill, William Hardy and Tanner Wilson. He is pre-deceased by two daughters Elizabeth and Carol, and by his brother Richard Averill.
 
The family will have a private burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery.  Friends and family are invited to a Remembrance Gathering at the family home in Seattle on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 3:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, please honor Bob by giving to the American Diabetes Association, the U.W. College of Engineering or your favorite charity.
